“He’s just… he’s not the same Brooklyn I knew.” Lexington spoke, perched on the edge of a building, speaking out over the city but conversing with the male behind him. He moved a claw along the concrete beneath his feet, sighing as frustration continued to cloud his mind even now about the events that had recently took place. Sure, there mission had been successful, but as soon as Lexington and Hudson got back from the United Kingdom, he’d found one of his best friend’s had aged several decades, had a mate and a son with another child on the way!
Brooklyn had explained about his travels to different time zones via the Phoenix Gate. Lexington understood it, possibly better than anyone else in the clan, but coming to terms with the idea Brooklyn had lived an entire lifetime in the space of a few days was too much for Lex to handle emotionally. “Why him?” He mused quietly. Was it fate or destiny, just like them ending up in New York in 1994? He slammed his fist into the concrete below, cracking it and leaving a small crater and hurting his hand. He grumbled softly, rubbing it.
He wanted to admit he’d always had feelings for Brooklyn, or maybe he’d just enjoyed being good friends with him. After all, they were rookery brothers and they had been one of few to survive the Wyvern massacre. But either way he knew he’d have less time to spend with his friend now, less time to explore the wonders of the twentieth and twenty-first century. He felt like he wanted to cry, but his frustration at the world and life and all these stupid plans fate and destiny, or whatever, had for them was too great.
“I honestly wish I could give you an answer.” The voice from behind him spoke softly, that lovely English accent that pierced through the frustration and eased his pain for a short moment. The male came up from behind, placing one hand on Lex’s shoulder, the other on his arm. The smaller gargoyle sighed and closed his eyes, taking in the other male’s touch and finding comfort in his despair. “I cannot undo what has already been done. Your friend sounds happy, Lex. Take comfort in knowing he has lived his life happily despite the circumstances. I don’t believe we’re supposed to understand fate or destiny, but I can honestly say I am happy that it led me to you.” The taller gargoyle explained, leaving Lex slightly confused.
He opened his eyes and gazed up at his new friend. Ever since he’d set eyes on him back in London he had felt a strange… attraction to the stag, like he wanted to be around him constantly and know more about him. Lex’s head ached and swimming with so many thoughts that when Amp leaned in, his eyes widened when the stag’s lips moved to press against his own. On the edge of this building somewhere in Manhattan, the two gargoyles shared their first kiss together, and for a short moment Lex forgot about Brooklyn and the Timedancer scenario, raising his hand and cupping Amp’s cheek, returning the kiss.
It broke shortly afterwards and Lex could feel his cheeks heating up. He had just been kissed by another male gargoyle and wanted to do it again. He wanted to keep kissing Amp and feel those warm lips against his own until sunrise. He finally breathed and gave a smile as he gazed up at Amp’s slightly fearful expression. “It’s difficult,” Lex started, “I always thought the three of us would be ‘the trio’ forever. But Broadway has Angela and Brooklyn’s older and has Katana and a son!” He exclaimed, finding it strange to even say it out loud. Amp interjected, “And you have me. Things may have changed but you will always be… the trio you once were.”
Lex finally relaxed as Amp wrapped his furry arms around his body, pressing close behind him and planting a kiss to the top of his bald head, both gargoyles staring out into the horizon, “Thanks for coming to Manhattan.” Lex thanked, watching the sun finally beginning to creep up in the distance, “I could never say no to a handsome bloke like yourself.” He laughed and nuzzled his new-found lover, Amp’s arms wrapped around Lex protectively as the pair began to turn to stone, enjoying the last few seconds of affection before they finally fell into their stone-sleep for the day.
And something I think about A LOT. The changed dynamics of post-Timedancer Brooklyn, and how his relationship with Lex and Broadway would have changed… and stayed the same. And you addressed that, and brought in Staghart/Lex, and just. This is perfect. ❤ BEST THING TO WAKE UP TO. THANK YOU FOR THIS. (And you hinted at Brooklyn/Lex, which is just. Yes. Good. That is also where my love lies. GOOD.)
